The TCD section

Or the Targets, Collimators and Dumps Section, of the Sources Targets and Interactions Group of CERN’s Systems Department is responsible for all beam-intercepting devices in the CERN accelerator complex. This includes beam collimators, particle producing targets, beam dumps and absorbers, beam stoppers, passive masks, slits as well as scrapers. This website gives an overview of the section’s activities.

Project development

The section carries out conceptual studies, manufacturing, installation and maintenance of the mechanical systems and associated equipment, and collaborates in the integration of mechatronics systems needed for operation. The section teams organize and undertakes expert interventions in the beam facilities to carry out mechanical repairs or upgrades of its devices.

STI Mechanical Workshop Prévessin

The TCD Section manages a mechanical workshop with high level of expertise and a good flexibility. Goods supply, CNC milling and lathing, conventional machining, sheet metal working, UHV welding, assembly, clean room assembly and Radioactive assembly are competencies available.
