Machining:

Equipped with a brand new CNC mill and lathe amongst other conventional machines, the STI workshop can handle up-to-Ø250mm components.

Welding:

One of the main workshop’s services is the high-quality welding of various metals Our skilled welder is certified for the production of UHV joints. One example of it is the over-5m-long UHV vacuum chamber shown below.

Mechanical Assembly:

Many of the section’s devices are assembled in the dedicated assembly facilities of the TCD workshop. Also tooling of different kinds are produced not only for in-house use but also for other sections. Upon request, our staff can take care as well of material procurement and tool design.

Clean / Radioactive assembly:

When it comes to in-vacuum systems requiring a high cleanliness level, our technicians carry out the assembly activities in a TCD-owned clean booth. Devices fulfilling UHV specs have already been mounted inside such booth, which is located in the 867-R-P49 radioactive area, so the assembling of radioactive components is allowed.

For the handling of the most radioactive parts there is the 867-R-R58 bunker. This room does not ensure a clean environment though.

Sheet metal working:

Up to 3mm-thick steel sheets can be cut in our machines. Cutting of larger thickness sheets or complex shapes is outsourced (laser cutting or water-jet cutting). Sheet bending up to radius=x mm is also possible.
